Do you remember learning to read? More than likely, you don't. Can you imagine someone going through life not being able to read, not being able to help his or her child learn to read? To date, nearly 120,000 people in Central Ohio do not have the ability to read. And, according to the latest report from the U.S. Department of Education, the number is growing. The Columbus Literacy Council strives to improve lives by teaching reading skills every day. Last year, the Council was able to provide more than 77,000 instructional hours to help improve lives and impact families.

This year, the Council estimates that we will serve about 2,000 students from Central Ohio. Ninety-five percent of our students are at or below the poverty level and are not in a position to pay for services. Therefore, to help change their lives, we offer our services to them, free-of-charge. This means that we need your help to continue this live changing service. You can help by donating items from our wish list or making a monetary contribution.
