Our Mission

The Columbus Literacy Council (CLC) is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to increasing the level of functional literacy of adults in central Ohio through teaching the English language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Columbus, Ohio ranks number one for growth of immigrant and refugee populations in the last ten years... more than New York City, Atlanta, Chicago, and San Francisco.

16% of adults in Franklin County and 20% of adults in Columbus lack the reading, writing, and basic math skills needed to function effectively in daily life.

An adult without a high school diploma earns 45% less than a high school graduate.

50% of the chronically unemployed have low literacy levels.
